Water intake
systems

Clean water right from the start

The right technology is crucial for ensuring reliable operation of the entire water circuit – even at the water intake point. Water intake systems serve to protect downstream pumps, while special debris filters keep macrofouling and debris away from the heat exchangers installed downstream. Water intake systems are used not only in industrial-scale water circuits, such as in cooling water for power plants, but also in thermal and membrane-based seawater desalination, in industrial process waters, and in industrial-scale heat pumps and chillers. In all cases, they limit the ingress of coarse particles, stabilize the hydraulic conditions, and ensure operational availability together with debris filters. So, stability starts here – even before the process gets underway.

How it works

TAPROGGE Solutions

In practice, various water intake concepts are gaining traction. For small and medium-sized applications, such as compact desalination plants or industrial heat pumps, submerged intake solutions with filter surfaces entirely below the water surface are ideal. Very large quantities of water, for example in power plants, require multi-stage water intake systems with coarse bar screens and fine screens as well as traveling band or drum screens.

The right intake solution

We implement both concepts: backwashable submerged intake solutions and multi-stage water intake systems. Both concepts allow for defined hydraulic routing and provide targeted protection against macrofouling and debris. Because the water source, flow rate, use case, and regulatory framework vary from site to site, we provide comprehensive advice to operators, planners, and contractors and develop the right water intake solution for their specific needs.

Single-Stage Water Intake – TAPIS®

For submerged intake applications with the water inlet fully below the water surface, TAPIS® protects the pumps directly at the water intake point. As a single-stage pre-treatment system, it replaces classic multi-stage concepts in which traveling band or drum screens are used. Separate intake structures are therefore not required. This reduces the amount of construction work needed, …

Multi-Stage Water Intake

When it comes to very large quantities of water, the water intake process needs a clear structure above all else. Multi-stage concepts are used wherever high volume flows, large intake structures, and robust pump protection are required. They are the standard for large-scale cooling and water circuits, particularly in power generation and in large industrial plants …
