Klaren System

Self-cleaning technology

Fouling and scaling are key factors that directly influence efficiency, operating costs, and availability in thermal process plants such as heat exchangers and evaporators. Over time, deposits on the heat transfer surfaces lead to increased energy consumption, shutdowns for cleaning work, and a shorter service life for the components. This is precisely where the Klaren System comes in: As a retrofit and upgrade solution, it integrates proven self-cleaning technology into existing equipment, restoring and maintaining its performance in the long run.

The Klaren System is based on the fluidized bed principle.

Klaren System – How it works

Specially selected cleaning particles are introduced into the process medium and kept in motion by an upward flow into the evaporator. By constantly coming into contact with the internal heat transfer surfaces, these particles produce a continuous, gentle scouring effect. This prevents deposits from forming and removes fouling in its early stages before it can form hard scaling layers. A specially designed and engineered distribution device in the inlet region ensures a uniform flow and particle distribution in all tubes and thus consistent cleaning results across the entire system.

Effect and benefits in operation

Integrating the Klaren System into your plant restores and stabilizes its heat transfer performance. Thanks to the continuous online cleaning, the formation of deposits is minimized, which results in fewer unplanned shutdowns and lower energy consumption for heating or cooling processes. Manual cleaning work and the associated costs are significantly reduced. At the same time, the service life of the plants is increased thanks to the lower thermal and mechanical loading. As a cost-effective solution for revamping existing equipment, the system increases performance without the need for full replacement.

Fields of application

Every Klaren System is designed and engineered based on the specific process and plant requirements in order to ensure optimum performance after retrofitting. Only minor modifications to the existing infrastructure are required and implementation typically takes place during planned maintenance periods. The system is suitable for a large number of industries in which fouling restricts the thermal power and operating efficiency.

Typical fields of application include

  • Shell-and-tube heat exchangers (heaters, coolers, condensers)
  • Multi-effect evaporators (MEE)
  • Mechanical vapor recompression systems (MVR)
  • Single-effect evaporators
  • Processes in the chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industry as well as in food and drinks production
  • Industrial waste water treatment and evaporation systems
  • Applications involving highly saline media prone to scaling
