Efficient heat transfer in industrial refrigeration
Even in industrial chillers, microfouling in the condenser leads to a lower heat transfer rate, higher differential pressures, and unnecessary efficiency losses. This significantly reduces the cooling power of the system. A much larger amount of energy is required to maintain the given cooling capacity. Taprogge systems T1 and F1 for continuous online heat exchanger cleaning are used to counteract these efficiency losses. Both systems are compact and economical solutions that are particularly suitable for applications with limited installation space and a clear cost focus. Highly efficient pre-screening or pre-filtration of the cooling water is required for reliable operation.
Function in the overall system
Taprogge System
The strainers are one of the key components of Taprogge Systems. They are installed in the outlet region of the heat exchanger and separate the cleaning balls from the water flow after they have passed through and cleaned the condenser tubes. After exiting the strainer, the balls reach the ball recirculating unit and are fed back via the ball injection device to the cooling water flow on the inlet side of the heat exchanger, where they pass through the condenser tubes again. This produces a closed ball circuit that continuously cleans the condenser tubes.
Example shown: Type C3
Other types: C13 and C40
Close-up of the ball recirculating unit
The ball recirculating unit typically contains a ball recirculating pump for transporting the cleaning balls to the heat exchanger inlet and a ball collector for loading and unloading the cleaning balls. A programmable logic controller provides closed-loop control as well as reliable information about the processes required in system operation. Thanks to this recurring cleaning process, the insides of the condenser tubes are kept clean. Deposits are continuously reduced and the heat transfer rate remains at a consistently high level. The result is less fouling, greater efficiency, and more stable heat exchanger operation.
Two strainers for different requirements
Taprogge has two compact solutions here: the T1 and F1. The Taprogge System F1 with strainer offers advantages in terms of service accessibility, while the T1 has a particularly cost-effective design in clearly defined operating conditions. The question as to which strainer should be used depends not only on technical requirements but also on the spatial conditions on site.
F1 – Compact and service-friendly
The Taprogge System F1 is designed for small to medium nominal diameters and is particularly well suited for chillers with defined water qualities. It reliably separates the cleaning balls and can be easily integrated into plant concepts where space is severely limited. A key advantage of the F1 is its service-friendly design: An optional manhole can be provided so that the strainer is easier to access for servicing work.
T1 – Cost-effective for clearly defined constraints
The Taprogge System T1 is a particularly economical design for applications in which a compact and cost-optimized system is required. It is particularly well suited for industrial chillers with clearly-defined operating conditions and for installation situations with limited space. Unlike the F1, the focus of the T1 is less on service accessibility and more on a cost-effective system design.
