Mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) with a self-cleaning evaporator

Industrial waste water is becoming increasingly complex. High salt concentrations and different types of fouling make conventional treatment processes more difficult and increase the level of pretreatment required as well as operating and maintenance costs. With Klaren MVR, Taprogge has combined mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) with a self-cleaning evaporator. This allows even challenging, highly saline wastewater streams to be concentrated reliably, efficiently, and without using chemicals.


How Klaren MVR works

The MVR method reuses the vapor generated in the evaporation process as an energy source. The compression increases the pressure and temperature so that the vapor can then be used again as a heating medium. This reduces the need for energy from external sources and saves costs while still ensuring reliable liquid concentration. In many applications, the system operates without external steam and without cooling water. Depending on the design, only small amounts of auxiliary steam may be needed.

Self-cleaning evaporator for stable performance

A key advantage of Klaren MVR is the self-cleaning evaporator design. It prevents fouling and scaling directly on the heat transfer surfaces and keeps performance at a consistently high level. This keeps the heat transfer rate stable, reduces unplanned shutdowns, cuts cleaning costs, and increases the service life of the plant. In terms of technology, the system is based on a fluidized bed of cleaning particles on the tube side of a vertical heat exchanger. The upward flow of fluid and a special distribution system produce a gentle yet effective scouring effect along the tube inner walls. This removes deposits early before they can impair performance.
