Ensuring reliable operation of water systems in energy processes

Power generation places high demands on the reliability of technical systems. Power plants run continuously under high thermal loads and with large quantities of water. Efficiency, plant availability, and reliability are crucial for ensuring economical and stable operation. Water is indispensable in many power generation processes – particularly in chiller and heat exchanger systems as well as in operational auxiliary and supply circuits. Fouling, biofouling, and deposits (scaling) impair the transfer of heat, increase energy use, and can hamper the performance of entire regions of the plant. Preventing icing in heat pumps

Large-scale heat pumps that are used, for example, in the district heating supply are increasingly drawing on surface water from rivers, lakes, or the sea as a sustainable heat source. In order to optimally utilize the available heat, as much energy as possible is taken from the water in the evaporator. Operation close to freezing point is particularly attractive from an energy point of view, but it also increases the risk of icing on the heat transfer surfaces.
